This is where it all began….

John Fairfax & Sons Ltd has produced some of Australia’s finest journalists and journalism since its inception. Many of those journalists are the product of the cadetship system, in which high school matriculants and university graduates undertook a guided traineeship for one to four years, emerging as graded journalists.

This website focuses on some of those lucky cadets – currently those inducted from 1978 to 1985 – many of whom went on to pave illustrious media careers. Others saw their careers diverge in different directions, but all of those are richer for the shared cadetship experience, and the mentorship provided by senior journalists over many years.
